The industry is only realizing the important of sound ecological management and the advantages of sustainable utilization with the incorporation of tourism in the game ranch industry with game lodges becoming the main means income generation on game ranches and game reserves.

Game Ranch Management Courses:

In the game ranch management courses students learn the fundamentals of the importance of ecologically sound management methods. Students will also acquire the skills to do veld analyses to determining the veld condition and carrying capacity in detail and be able to calculate the best species composition of antelope both browsers and grazers and their numbers to utilize the game ranch or game reserve to its full potential without detrimental affects to the veld. This will also result in the improvement of the the veld condition over time.

The game ranch management course also include aspects such as environmental legislation concerning hunting, poaching, CITIES, game capturing, permits etc.

Other subjects of this course include, Game science, Game ranch ecology, game ranch management, Soil science, Rangeland studies (plants), game ranch economics, computer usage, game utilization and or Lodge management.

The basics of the game ranch management course require two years of theory and one experiential year being your practical year.

The degree in game ranch management consists of a additional two years which mainly condition the student to become wildlife researcher.
